As your business grows, your finance support needs to grow with it
The financial needs of a growing business do not stay the same.
A smaller business might have an owner doing some of the bookkeeping themselves, an administrator handling invoices and an accountant stepping in periodically.
That can work perfectly well.
But as the business grows, so does the financial activity behind it.
More customers. More suppliers. More transactions. More employees. Sometimes multiple entities. And increasingly, more decisions relying on accurate financial information.
A conversation with an accountant recently highlighted how different the right finance model can look from one business to another.
Some established businesses have an excellent internal accounts person and need external support, review and specialist advice.
Others reach a point where managing accounts payable, receivables, payroll, reconciliations, reporting and compliance internally takes too much time or becomes dependent on one person.
There is not one correct structure.
What matters is whether the people involved know their responsibilities, communicate effectively and produce financial information the business can rely on.
At QiBalance Bookkeeping, our role is often to become part of that wider finance team.
We can take responsibility for the day-to-day bookkeeping and financial processes while working alongside the business owner’s accountant and other advisers.
That separation of responsibilities can be valuable.
The bookkeeper stays close to what is happening in the accounts. The accountant brings specialist tax and advisory expertise. The business owner gets information they can trust without needing to personally coordinate every detail.
For an established business, that is when outsourcing bookkeeping becomes about more than saving the owner some time, it is about creating a finance function that supports the business you have become, rather than the business you used to be.
Has your finance function evolved as your business has grown, or are you still using processes designed for a much smaller business?
